Card information

The Building Controls apprentice card recognises that an apprenticeship in Building Energy Management Systems (BEMS) is being completed.

The apprentice must be completing an apprenticeship standard or framework that leads to the award of the ECS Building Controls Engineer card. This includes apprenticeships across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Apprentices are supervised through their training programme and complete underpinning knowledge and performance assessments prior to their final assessment.

A JIB Registered or Preferred Training provider may apply for this card on your behalf.

Eligibility and requirements

To be eligible for this card, applicants must:

  • Provide evidence of the apprenticeship programme being undertaken for Building Controls, such as the Level 4 Building Energy Management Systems (BEMS) Controls Engineer apprenticeship
  • Hold a current ECS Health, Safety and Environmental Assessment (there are no exemptions that can be used when applying for this card).
For details about the ECS Health, Safety and Environmental Assessment visit the HS&E Assessment page.

Evidence of the apprenticeship is usually a training agreement or learning plan, signed by the employer, which confirms the programme of study for the named apprentice.
