Application Guidance

Things to check before you start:

1) Do you have the right qualifications for the card you’re applying for? The requirement for the Installation Electrician Gold Card is NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.

2) You must pass the ECS H&S Assessment before you apply if you don’t already have it, or hold a valid exemption.

The easiest and fastest way to apply is online

Online Applications

Go to MyECS, set up an account and follow the step-by-step instructions.

Paper Applications

Paper applications are slower than online applications. From 1st January 2017 they also incur an additional £10 administration fee.

You can download an application form below. With your application you need to enclose:

  • a single, countersigned passport-sized photograph to accompany your application.
  • photocopies of all your relevant certificates, qualifications, employer and industry references, apprenticeship deeds and so on.
  • the correct postage - please see below for advice on this.

By making an application for an ECS Card you are confirming that you agree to the ECS Terms and Conditions.

Postage costs – don’t get caught out
We receive hundreds of notifications from the post office each year regarding ECS card applications that have been sent without sufficient postage. We’re unable to accept these and they have to be sent back to the applicant.

To make sure your application reaches us and can be processed as quickly as possible, you can check with the Post Office or online at www.royalmail.com/price-finder to find out the correct postage rate for your application.

It is quicker to renew online and avoid any problems in the postage.
