Card information

The LV Jointing green stripe cards are available to those operatives who are working in the industry in a jointing occupation but have not yet completed the NVQ Level 3 qualification.

The Assessment of Occupational Competence in LV Cable Jointing (administered by NET) is a requirement for initial applications of the LV Jointer card. Eligibility and requirements

LV Assistant Jointer (White with Green Stripe) card
To be eligible for an ECS Jointing – Assistant Jointer (white with green stripe) card, applicants must meet the following criteria and provide proof of:

Either Route 1: Do you already have a JIB-approved electrical theory qualification?
1. If you already have a qualification such as C&G 2365, 2330 or 2360 (or EAL equivalents), this will be accepted for your card. View a full list of approved qualifications (Only the health and safety element of these qualifications is recognised by the JIB for a Cabling green stripe card).

2. You will also need to pass the ECS Health, Safety & Environmental Assessment. 

Or Route 2: If you don’t hold a JIB-approved theory qualification...
If you don’t hold a JIB-approved electrical theory qualification, you’ll need the following: 

1. Successful completion of ONE of the following Health & Safety courses: 

• VQ Level 3 for power supply and distribution cabling health and safety unit
• Level 1 Health and Safety in a Construction Environment
• CITB Health and Safety Awareness: Site Safety Plus (both classroom and remotely invigilated versions)
• CCNSG Safety Passport – National Course or Renewal Course
• Safety Passport Alliance (SPA) Core H&S Course 

2. You only need to sit a separate ECS Health, Safety & Environmental Assessment if you do not hold a valid exemption.


ECS LV Jointer (White with Green Stripe) card
To be eligible for an ECS LV Jointer (White with Green stripe) card, applicants must meet the following criteria and provide proof of:

• NET Assessment of Competence in LV Cable Jointing, or 
• City & Guilds 2304-21 Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Power Engineering (Underground Cables)

– and –

• Hold a current ECS Health, Safety and Environmental Assessment. For details visit the ECS H&S Assessment page.

MV / HV Jointer - Additional Occupation 

Those qualifying as LV Jointers above, may also add MV / HV Jointer to their ECS card by completing one of the following routes: 

• SES Training
  • 33KV Triplex End Termination Course
  • High Voltage Cable Jointing Refresher Course Up To 11kv
  • HV2 – 11KV HV Triplex Jointing Course XLPE and EPR
  • HV3 – 11KV End Termination Polymeric XLPE and EPR Course
  • HV4 – 11KV Polymeric XLPE and EPR Straight Jointing Course
• The Faraday Centre 
  • HV Cable Termination & Jointing (TJ)
