Apprentices applying for their first gold card

Apprentices applying for their first gold card after completing their apprenticeship mush show that they have completed their apprenticeship with the 18th edition of the wiring regulations.

When applying for their first ECS Gold card as an Installation or Maintenance Electrician a copy of the Apprenticeship Completion Certificate plus a copy of the AM2S needs to be uploaded as part of the application.

Also, a copy of the Level 3 Electrotechnical Qualification with the unit breakdown that shows the wiring regulations unit taken needs to be included in the uploaded documents.

A separate 18th edition wiring regulations qualification certificate may also be uploaded if this is held.  

Before the application is submitted the completing apprentice needs to “opt-in” to become a Registered Electrician*.

Once the qualifications have been validated with the awarding organisation an ECS gold card as either Installation or Maintenance Electrician plus recognition as a Registered Electrician will be issued if all the scheme requirements have been met.

Apprentices with 17th edition – a standard Installation or Maintenance Electrician gold card will be issued if the apprenticeship completion certificate was issued between 1st July 2018 and 30th June 2021 and only evidence of a 17th edition wiring regulations is held. Apprentices can upgrade to Registered Electrician when they gain the 18th edition.
