LV Jointer - Level 3

Card information

The Jointing gold card is for NVQ Level 3 skilled individuals who work unsupervised and have experience jointing all types of cable up to 11kv including those which are set up to an including the maximum voltages specified within the IET Regulations and should be familiar with these Regulations. 

The gold card shows the cardholder has completed a formal industry regulated competency-based qualification, which includes technical theory with practical and competency assessments. Those obtaining a LV Jointer gold card will have also undertaken an occupational competence assessment for cable jointing administered by NET.

Bespoke Electrical Training are providing the NVQ Level 3 Power Supply and Distribution Cabling qualification for both Cable Installation and Cable Jointing pathways. 

A green stripe Jointing card may also be provided to those operatives who are working in the industry in a jointing occupation but have not yet completed the NVQ Level 3 qualification. The occupational competence assessment for cable jointing administered by NET is required for all initial applications for LV Jointer. 

ECS LV Jointing cards (white with gold stripe) are available with teh following JIB grades:

• LV Jointer (L3)
• Approved LV Jointer

Eligibility and requirements

ECS LV Jointer (White with Gold stripe) card
To be eligible for an ECS LV Jointer (White with Gold stripe) card, applicants must meet the following criteria and provide proof of:

• VQ Level 3 for Power Supply and Distribution Cabling (Cable Jointing Pathway)

– and –

• NET Assessment of Competence in LV Cable Jointing 

– and –

• Hold a current ECS Health, Safety and Environmental Assessment. For details visit the ECS H&S Assessment page.

ECS Approved LV Jointer (White with Gold stripe) card 

To be eligible for an ECS Approved LV Jointer (White with Gold stripe) card, applicants must meet the following criteria and provide proof of:

• Fully met the requirements of ECS LV Jointer (White with Gold stripe) card and held the card for a minimum of 2 years.

• Have an employer endorsement

– and –

• Hold a current (up-to-date) Health & Safety Certificate or recognised H&S qualification. For details visit the ECS H&S test information area.

MV / HV Jointer - Additional Occupation 

Those qualifying as LV Jointers above, may also add MV / HV Jointer to their ECS card by completing one of the following routes: 

• SES Training
  • 33KV Triplex End Termination Course
  • High Voltage Cable Jointing Refresher Course Up To 11kv
  • HV2 – 11KV HV Triplex Jointing Course XLPE and EPR
  • HV3 – 11KV End Termination Polymeric XLPE and EPR Course
  • HV4 – 11KV Polymeric XLPE and EPR Straight Jointing Course
• The Faraday Centre 
  • HV Cable Termination & Jointing (TJ)
