Card information

There are four FESS pathways (Fire, Fire & Emergency Lighting, Fire & Security, or Security) each with their own assessment.

The FESS Systems Technician (Gold Hatched) card is for experienced people who have been working with fire, emergency or security systems and who have qualified to the industry Level 3 standard in one of the relevant specialisms (installation, maintenance or commissioning) of the FESS Experienced Worker Assessment. 

Working at this level typically involves carrying out duties unsupervised that may include installation or maintenance of FESS systems.

Eligibility and requirements

To be eligible for this card, applicants must have successfully completed one of the specialisms of the FESS Experienced Worker Assessment in their chosen pathway as follows: 

  • Installation 
  • Maintenance
  • Commissioning 
  • Installation and Commissioning

2. Hold a current ECS Health, Safety and Environmental Assessment.

Note: The card type issued will be in the pathway in which the EWA has been completed (i.e. Fire, Fire & Emergency Lighting, Fire & Security, or Security). 

Experienced Worker Assessments are being run by training providers approved by either BPEC or EAL Awards. These are assessments for experienced FESS Systems Technicians who do not hold relevant qualificaitons or training and wish to be assessed to Gold card standard. A list of centres delivering these assessments will be available here as and when these are confirmed.
