ECS Related Discipline

Related Discipline ECS cards are for those working in specialised electrotechnical disciplines, but do not carry out any electrical installation work. Their work is typically aligned to or in support of the electrical industry but is not already covered by a core ECS card. 

The ECS Related Discipline cards available are: 

  • Field Engineer
  • Equipment Installer
  • Aerial and Satellite Engineer
  • Control Systems Engineer
  • Trace Heating Systems Installer 

If you already hold a Related Discipline card: From 1st January 2021 you will need to meet the new requirements set out below. You will also need to transfer to one of the new occupations listed above. Download our guidance on which card you should transfer to based on your existing card. 

Eligibility and requirements

To be eligible for an ECS Related Discipline card, applicants must:

  1. Successfully passed the ECS Electrical Safety Unit Assessment 
    • It is recommended training is undertaken prior to this assessment to ensure relevant knowledge. Please see above link and guide on the content of the assessment   ​
  2. Provide a detailed job description from your employer, detailing the scope of work undertaking, along with a formal job title.
  3. Hold a current ECS Health, Safety and Environmental Assessment. For details visit the ECS H,S&E Assessment page.
