Card information

From 01 August 2018 you will not be able to apply for this card in its current form. After this date, a new qualification requirement is in place if you are applying for your first Related Discipline ECS card.

If you already hold this card, from 01 January 2019 you will not be able to renew it against the old criteria and will need to meet the new requirements.

Download an information sheet with more details.

Related Discipline ECS cards are for those who are not directly involved in electrical installation work, but their work is aligned or in support to the electrical industry, and an occupational discipline does not already exist.

Typically the ECS Related Discipline card is for people that are working in specialised electrotechnical disciplines which are not covered by other cards or a recognised NVQ or SVQ, and where an awareness of electrical safety for user service is required, but does not involve any electrical installation work.

The ECS Related Discipline card is only issued if there is no other ECS card that covers the occupation applied for. The occupations covered by this card must have an electrical content.

The ECS Related Discipline card issued will be the most appropriate from the occupations available such as a Field Engineer, Equipment Installer or AV Engineer.

Please phone 01322 661 622 for more information.

Eligibility and requirements

To be eligible for an ECS Related Discipline card, applicants must:

  1. Provide a detailed job description from your employer, detailing the type of work undertaking, along with a formal job title. (The ECS Related Discipline card issued will be the most appropriate from the occupations available).
  2. Hold a current ECS Health, Safety and Environmental Assessment. For details visit the ECS H&S Assessment page

From 01 August 2018 there are new qualification requirements for initial Related Discipline ECS cards. From 01 January 2019, existing cardholders will have to renew their card against these new requirements.
