Adding the JIB Mature Candidate Assessment to your portfolio allows you to offer a valuable service to the scores of electricians who have many years’ experience, but never completed an apprenticeship or NVQ.
The JIB Mature Candidate Assessment recognises existing industry experience and takes into account the work that the candidate has been carrying out to date. When they are successful they gain an industry Level 3 qualification from either City & Guilds or EAL, which meets the requirements for a ECS Gold Card application.
Typically the candidate will have completed relevant electrotechnical theory training and worked in the industry for a minimum of 5 years.
Candidates must be able to provide sufficient evidence from site and by witness testimony of previous work to fully meet the qualification specification in the required pathway.
Prior to enrolling on this assessment programme, they must have successfully completed a relevant Technical Certificate and can demonstrate to an assessor their understanding of the industry theory and UK Wiring Regulations.
This is a restricted qualification and approval from the JIB must be gained prior to making an application to City and Guilds or EAL to become a licensed centre for this particular scheme.
The reason that the assessment has been made a restricted qualification, with annual approval needed from the JIB, is to help ensure the qualification is used as it is intended – i.e. a support for mature candidates to demonstrate their technical knowledge, performance and competence to the industry standard level 3 and not as training for new industry entrants or inexperienced workers.
