Photo Handling

Changes to the way photographs are handled for ECS card applications.

From September 2021 when uploading a photograph to an application you may find that the system gives you some advice or a warning to the quality and positioning of a photograph.
Please remember that the ECS requires a recent, good quality, full colour passport style photograph uploaded with every application made.

Full guidance on the photo requirements is available here.

When uploading a photograph you may find the system now indicates an error with the image you are using. This may be that the position of the person in the image is not correct or the background is not a plain one. In the worst cases the image will be rejected and you will not be able to proceed until the ECS photo requirements have been met.

An overview to how the new photo upload system works is available here.

Please ensure you upload a recent, good quality, full colour passport style photograph so your application is not delayed.
