Annual Review 2024 Showcases Advances in Standards and Competence

28 February 25

The ECS Annual Review 2024 is now available, highlighting our vital work in raising industry standards and improving competence in the electrotechnical industry.  It features innovations introduced during the past year to ensure we continue to provide an efficient and accessible service for ECS cardholders, employers and training providers.

ECS is committed to making the best use of advances in technology, such as Identity Document Verification Technology (IDVT) to enhance the integrity and security of the ECS Card application process. The Remote Invigilation system has grown in demand with more than 150,000 assessments now undertaken using this time-saving option. ECS continues to enhance the user experience of its AI-driven platform with upgrades and improved functionality.

Collaboration is key to the success of the ECS scheme. In 2024 we developed greater opportunities for professionals who were not able to undertake apprenticeships, or similar routes, to qualified status. Five new Experienced Worker Assessments (EWA) are now available including, two EWAs for Fire, Emergency and Security Systems (FESS), the BEMS Controls Engineer EWA, the Network Infrastructure Installation EWA, and the EAL Level 3 Panel Wiring for Engineering Applications route.

ECS is the sole ID and competence card scheme for electrotechnical operatives in the UK and is recognised and endorsed by the industry. The Joint Industry Board (JIB) administers the ECS scheme in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Jay Parmar, JIB CEO, reflected: "The past year has been a landmark period for ECS as we continue to drive higher competence standards, enhance safety, and improve accessibility across the electrotechnical industry. Our focus on digital innovation, collaboration, and expanding pathways ensures that professionals are fully supported in their careers while upholding the highest industry standards. We are proud of the progress made and remain committed to further strengthening the scheme in the years ahead to improve both standards and the operation of ECS for all across the sector."
