The ECS Annual Review 2025 is now available, highlighting our vital work in raising industry standards and improving competence in the electrotechnical industry. It features innovations introduced during the past year to ensure we continue to provide an efficient and accessible service for ECS cardholders, employers and training providers.
In the past year competence has moved from policy to delivery across the electrotechnical sector. Strong industry leadership has been central to this progress with collaboration a defining feature. Industry groups have come together to ensure that shared competence frameworks are credible, consistent and grounded in real work, with the ECS then embedding these frameworks into card schemes and certification. It brings clarity on workforce capability and competence standards – for employers, clients and regulators – and fair, recognised progression routes for individuals.
The JIB and ECS team travelled to national and regional events in 2025 to champion skills and competence in the sector speaking to more than 500 people about the latest developments on competence, digital certification, the role of the BSR and funding for skills development.
Early in 2025, after working closely with the industry vetting service Experian, ECS launched Identity Document Verification Technology (IDVT), enabling individuals to confirm their identity, via their mobile phone, using biometric facial mapping. In November the availability of IDVT was extended to employers to optimise efficiency and security.
The Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) Alliance has continued to grow, with more than 75,000 unique individuals having their ECS cards checked in 2025 alone.
