The Electrotechnical Certification Scheme (ECS) continues to improve its systems to help streamline and accelerate the ECS Card Application process.
Early in 2025, after working closely with the industry vetting service Experian, we launched Identity Document Verification Technology (IDVT). This enables individuals to confirm their identity, via their mobile phone, using biometric facial mapping. As well as speeding up the application process, this enhances security, helping to reduce fraud. In November 2025 we extended the availability of IDVT to employers,
How It Works
Employers will be able to create an IDVT order, for their employees, in the ECS Employer Portal. Payment can be made using a credit or debit card, or by deducting the cost from their account credit. JIB member companies receive a discount. Once ordered, employees are sent an email notification requesting them to undertake the ID check. This needs to be completed within 72 hours of receiving the link.
Results are received from Experian and are generally available within 30 minutes of completion. Progress can be monitored via the Employer Portal. If an ID check fails, the employer can view the reasons and take the appropriate actions to uphold compliance standards. Another check can then be ordered.
