ECS and NET digital integration streamlines apprentice applications for first gold card

A new digital integration between National Electrotechnical Training (NET) and the Electrotechnical Certification Scheme (ECS) is set to make it quicker and easier for apprentices to obtain their first ECS gold card. 

Previously an apprentice would have to wait for a certificate to arrive from the Department for Education, to demonstrate they had successfully completed their apprenticeship. They would then upload this as part of their ECS card application. NET can now notify ECS of the apprentice’s achievement directly, via an Application Programming Interface (API), automatically adding this evidence of eligibility to the apprentice's MyECS account. Removing these manual steps in the process significantly reduces the application timeline and will help newly qualified electricians receive their ECS gold card more rapidly. 

The integration applies to Electrical Installation and Maintenance and Domestic Electrical apprentices in England who successfully complete the AM2S or AM2D.

Enhancing customer experience

The NET API solution has been developed as part of wider efforts to improve automation, reduce administration and enhance customer experience for apprentices and employers.

This automated process is available from Monday 3 August 2026.
