Checking the validity of ECS cards

If you’re recruiting electricians and asking for proof of their ECS registration, please be vigilant when checking cards.

An ECA member has brought a specific case to our attention where a cardholder had allegedly tampered with their card to falsify the card status and expiry date.

This situation not only led to anger at the finding and consequences against the individual, but also became a business concern as a client removed the ECA member from their contractor list whilst investigating.

By registering on the ECS Employer Portal, you can benefit from a complete overview on all employees’ cards, their status and expiry date. It also allows you to check the validity of a cardholder or card should the need arise.

You can make ECS checks on any employee using the portal, they do not have had to completed their initial ECS application via your company. The same applies if they have been recruited via an agency.

Whilst forged cards are in the minority, unfortunately these occasions do arise, so please do make use of this valuable service from the ECS Employer Portal to avoid unnecessary risk
