Registered Electricians Need 18th Edition for ECS Card Renewal

18th Edition Needed From Jan 1st 2020

From 1st January 2020, when Registered Electricians renew their card they must hold the BS7671:2018 (18th Edition) qualification.

Registered Electrician status recognises those who are not only qualified to the industry-recognised Level 3 standard, but also have opted into a Code of Professional Conduct and a commitment to undertake CPD, including keeping up to date with the Wiring Regulations.

Without the 18th Edition, Registered Electrician cardholders will revert back to a standard Installation or Maintenance Electrician gold card when their card is renewed.

This new requirement for Registered Electricians has come in following the successful introduction of the 18th edition qualification being needed from 1st January 2019 for all new initial applications for Installation and Maintenance Electricians. The 18th Edition is also required at renewal if an ECS gold card has expired for more than 12 months.
