Remote Invigilation Service - What to expect

What to expect when using the remote invigilation service.

There are three stages to taking an ECS assessment using our remote invigilation system.

1.    Initial Delegate Verification

The first part of the process is we need to make sure the person taking the assessment is the person we are expecting (if you have not already done so you will need to setup a MyECS account by going to www.ecscard.org.uk/MyECS-account).

After some initial instructions, you will be asked to sit in front of the computer you are using and will take you photograph with the webcam. You will then be asked to hold you photo ID (passport or photo driving licence) up to the camera so it fills the box.
The system will record the images and compare your face it can see in the webcam with the photo ID image.

Please make sure you have your photo ID to hand prior to starting the assessment.

2.    Taking the assessment

The system will then take you to the assessment setup screen.

You will need to make sure that your personal details are correct and agree to the terms and conditions of the assessment to proceed. You will be asked to hold you Photo ID (passport or photo driving licence) up to the camera so make sure you have it ready.

Once this is done a Start button will need to be clicked to take your assessment. Each question will be presented to you with the four possible answers. Just select the one you think is correct and click next.

The time starts when you click the Start button.

During your assessment attention prompts (targets) will pop up at random. You must respond to all the attention prompts when they appear (click on the target). If you do not click on the target on time you will fail the assessment.

When you have answered all the questions you will be given a review screen where you can see the answers that you have given and change an answer to any question if you would like to. To change an answer simply click the question to open it, select the answer you would like to and click on update to save the change.

After you have checked your answers you need to finish the assessment by clicking on the “Finish” button at the bottom of the screen. You will then be asked to confirm you wish to finish the assessment.

3.    Final Delegate photograph

The final part of the remote invigilation checking system is take a final photograph with the webcam. You just ned to sit in the same position as before and click on take the photograph and confirm it is the one to be used.

4.    Your result

There is now one of two things that will happen.
Either:
a.    If the remote invigilation system is satisfied that everything you have done complies with the monitoring requirements you will receive your test result. You will be able to review your questions on your computer screen and an email result letter will be sent to you.
Or
b.    If, however, the remote invigilation system has detected any unusual activity in the way the assessment was taken your result will be held until your exam performance has been personally reviewed by a moderator. This may take 2 to 3 working days. You will then be notified by email of your exam result.

Please Note: It is important that the internet browser being used will allow access to your webcam and will allow redirects for our testing system. Some users may find that their IT department has activated increased security either within the system settings, the virus software or firewall that prevents the ECS assessment working.
