From September 2021, the Electrotechnical Assessment Specification (EAS) – the assessment protocols and entry criteria for certification bodies such as the NICEIC and ELECSA – have been updated to mirror the ECS minimum standards for Electricians as well as requiring evidence relating to CPD, supervising employed person and insurance levels during assessment visits.

ECS was pleased to see further uptake for ECS Check in Northern Ireland in late 2021 and early 2022 and there are now more than 1,200 organisations registered on the system UK-wide.

New Experienced Worker Assessment

A new assessment process to recognise existing skills and experience has been launched by the electrotechnical industry. 
The ‘Experienced Worker Assessment’ (EWA) accredits occupational competence for people who have been working as an electrician for typically over five years but haven’t been able to complete an apprenticeship or achieve an equivalent Level 3 vocational qualification.

FESS Operative Card – How do I book a FESS Assessment? 


There are four sector disciplines recognised:

  • Fire 

  • Fire and Emergency Lighting 

  • Security 

  • Fire and Security 

To set up an online assessment to be taken remotely, please call 01322 661622. 

If you are an Employer and you are already using the Employer Portal, you can activate these FESS Assessments on your account by emailing guidance.portal@ecscard.org.uk. Please let us know your JIB or Employer Portal number if known, and which assessments are relevant to your workforce.

ECS Check system now available in Northern Ireland
 
The Electrotechnical Certification Scheme’s ECS Check system is now operational and approved as a pilot that meets the Licence to Practise (LtP) requirements on government public sector construction contracts in Northern Ireland.
